Organizational Change Process: Building a More Inclusive Culture, 2015 to 2019
For over four years, Anima was engaged in offering diversity training to over 800 internal staff, coaching the Senior Leadership team and offering further management tools and support. Deep Diversity® was the internal framework on which follow-up trainings such as Indigenous, Trans and Disability rights were scaffolded, and these mandatory trainings were consistently rated at an 80% or above satisfaction level.
As the training process progressed and conversations spread across various departments, not only awareness levels increased but relationships were strengthened: with client families, among staff and between staff and management. Embarking on a process to build a more inclusive environment was ultimately a staff engagement process, requiring organizational leadership, a dedicated internal diversity lead, and support for having the difficult conversations across difference.
As a result, Toronto Children’s Services is seen as a leader within the City of Toronto for taking these and additional steps to consciously build a more inclusive environment for staff and City families.
