The Leadership Crucible: Foundations for Social Change

Anima Leadership is proud to announce a new initiative called The Leadership Crucible: Foundations for Social Change. This is a cross-Canada invitation for diverse social change leaders to converge and collectively imagine what a new paradigm for change looks like.

The first stage of this initiative involves convergence programs on the East Coast at Tatamagouche Centre and on the west coast at Hollyhock.

Join with us to pioneer a new paradigm for social change: Those of us working for social and environmental change know the depth and urgency of the social, economic and political challenges facing us. We have answered the call to be creators of a new global reality, and, yet, as leaders, we struggle in many ways.

Reflect for a moment: Are you tired of the gap between words and actions? Do you often feel isolated or deeply alone in this work? Have you, or others around you, hit burnout? Do you feel in way over your head? Are you tired of conflict damaging professional and personal relationships? Do you ever wonder if there are better and more sustainable ways of working for change? If so, then this gathering is calling YOU.

Utilizing Otto Scharmers’ presencing process, you will be guided through an interactive journey to explore questions at the heart of this new paradigm, interwoven with skill development modules to sharpen personal and collective leadership capacities. This new paradigm seeks to balance feminine, collaborative principles with the more patriarchal and hierarchical leadership models that dominate in our society. It seeks to unify, rather than divide, our communities as we seek to name, recognize and work through difference to create a unity of direction. It honours traditional wisdom and asserts a spiritual grounding, and it calls us to recognize where our personal struggles become obstacles to the success of our efforts and our movements. Using science, psychology, politics and spirituality, you will discover and apply knowledge and skills required to revolutionize your work and to create and sustain solid foundations for systemic social change.

This program emerged out of processes and dialogue that seek to address:

  • How do we sustain individual leaders’ while facilitating systemic change?
  • How do we access the deep riches of diverse leadership in authentic rather than tokenistic ways?
  • What do we need to transform our conflictual, divisive and emerging relationships into a solid foundation of social change?

Program modules include:

  • Emotional/ social intelligence applied to leadership practices;
  • Valuing diversity at all levels of our work;
  • Using power ethically in our teams and organizations;
  • Strengthening relationships through times of conflict;
  • Using inner wisdom as a master guide in complex situations;
  • Creating inclusive environments where everyone feels valued and where we walk our talk.

Using skill development modules, mindfulness practices, deep dialogue and creative reflection you will sharpen your personal and collective leadership capacities, transform your relationships at all levels and leave re-energized, refocused, and newly hopeful about creating meaningful change.
